Prize giving 2012

"Oh no!" I said as I was getting ready for prize giving, an annual event. It was on a Thursday night and it was the year years 5-8. I came early on Thursday because I had to get ready for Kapa-Haka. " When you go on stage, SMILE!", Whaea Sophie said to us all as we were about to walk up on the stage. It almost felt like I was going to faint or even something worst than that!

Walking up the step on the stage was very nerve racking because there was a whole crowd of people watching you! "Smile!" Whaea Raewyn said again. Going up on that stage was like a heat wave coming my way, it was very nerve racking seeing all of the people watching you and thinking that they were going to watch every single step you take! Finally, we finished and got off the stage.

I went to go and get changed then came back into the hall and see everyone get prizes and do there dances. Then at the end we had to turn around and sin got the parents to let them know they are appreciated at all the hard work that they do for us. Then we left and went back home to have a good night rest to go back to school tomorrow.

My Friends And I

This is a photo of my friends and I, we are really close. We all have our own uniqueness and intelligence's . Shoal is intelligent and has a very big smile, Brooklyn is my best friend and is very strong. Makerita is a very bright person and is one of my close friends, Mary L is very sporty and sensitive when it comes to herself. Vivienne is very smart, intelligent and is hopping to be a leader next year, not a follower, Ashleigh is one of my close friends and she is very good at playing handball. Then there is Darius and Crusader, Darius is cool and funny and Crusader has his own way of introducing himself! That is all I can say about my friends and I hope that next year we will still be very close!

Today's Amazing Date

Today is a unique and superstitious day today and when people start say things about today, I get kind of scared! Like people saying that the world is going to end and I think that is a whole load of rubbish. That rumour has being going around for ages, but nothing has ever happened. It is unique because it is a once in a life time date and it will never happen again.

My Future Career

Hopefully my future career is to end up with me being a baker and make alot of new recipes of my own. I chose this as my future career because I have experienced it every Tuesdays of school, walking down to Tamaki College and going to my cooking class. We would make many yummy things like apple dutch cake, cookies and strawberry tarts.

Being a baker is a dream of mine and it would be awesome if I was to be a baker in the future. I have experienced it alot of times and I have made many  mistakes making it as well. I would have picked up my mistakes and learn from it so I would make the right decisions next time.

The person that I look up to is Nigella Lawson, I watch her making her own recipes and I vison myself standing next to her and helping her make her muffins and brownies. I would really love to be a baker when I am old enough to get my own show and maybe someday, someone might look up at me and vision them standing next to me and helping me with my baking.

Athletics 2012

"Oh no!" I thought to myself as I was getting ready for Athletics. An annual sports activity that happens every year. It was a sunny Wednesday morning, birds singing and the sun in the sky, I woke up  and as a looked at the clock it was almost 7:30am! I rush into my room, put my uniform on and quickly had breakfast. Athletics was held at Lloyd Elsmore park.

I ran down to school as quickly as I could and as I entered the school hall, I could see people scattered all around the hall. We waited and waited for the bus to arrive but still no bus. “SCREECH!!”, we heard the bus pull up and quickly hopped in the bus. I sat next to my friend Brooklyn, it wasn’t that long until we got there and we all got out a.s.a.p so we could look for a nice cool spot underneath the shade.

“ The first people to go to high jump is Huelo-Ata and Tui at 9:30.” Mr Barks said to us all as we were settled down in our space. I was really nervous so I went to go and stretch so I could feel more better than how I felt that morning. The clock struck 9:30 and so I had to go to the high jump mats to do high jump. Unfortunately I didn’t make it over the 4th one so I went back to have a rest because I had sprints in an hour time.

I had my morning tea and then Miss Va’afusuaga called me because some of my family members were here to watch me jump and sprint, I was really surprised. It was my turn to run so I went with Serena, my friend who also qualified for sprints as well, “Do your best!” I said to her and she said the same thing back to me. I ran my hardest and when we were at the finish line there was a muddle-up between the lanes and because 1 person went into another lane and wasn’t disqualified! So we raced again and I came 4th!

Skipping

Last Term, we had been assigned to have a fitness goal and try to achieve it everyday or at least once a week. I updated it once a week! I had fun experiencing this and I hope we can do it again next year!

Manaiakalani Film Festival

“RING!” the bell went. As soon as I heard the bell go, I rushed off to the Street and got ready in my class lines. I was very excited to get out of school and go to watch the Manaiakalani film festival at Hoyts, Sylvia park. The whole school went but the years 1-6 went first and then the years 7-8.  It was the start to my interesting day.

“ Come on people, lets go!” our teacher said to us students. As we walked through the car park and onto the footpath, I could see 3 buses waiting for us to hop on and go. “ Mrs Lagitupu, which bus are we going on??” We were going back and forward and deciding what bus we were going on.

“ Squeak!!!” The buses stopped. When I looked outside, I could see that we were at Sylvia park!! “ Yay! I can’t wait to see our Pt England movies at the film festival!!” I my friend whispered in my ear. I knew that there was going to be a variety of different movies.

As soon as we were seated in the cinema, the light went down and everyone started to cheer. The first movie that showed was a movie from Pt England and Tamaki Collage. It was called " The Real One Direction. . . . . . East side Styles!" It was very funny to watch because it went from year 6 students to Teachers, it was awesome!!!!

When the lights came on, everyone said "Ohhh!!" It was the end of the Film festival and I was even sad because I wanted to watch more cool films. I felt really tired and sad because it was very cool and I wanted to watch more. It was a very cool experience to watching all of those films.

Athletics

It all started with a sunny Thursday morning, blue skies and birds singing in the trees.  I came to school in my house colour and it was Tainui a.k.a blue!! I could see sports gear all over the field, it was Athletics day!!  The whole school had to participate. “ Good morning girls, nice to see you in your house colours!” Mr Jacobson said to us.  It was a good beginning to the day.

I am 11 year old so I had to go with the 11 year old girls. Our very first activity was Javelin. As I anxiously walked up to take my turn, I pick up the javelin stick and threw it with all my might. As the Javelin stick flew out of my hand, I watched it whizz past in mid-air. “Thud!!” the javelin stick hit the ground and to my surprise I realised that I was coming second! “Yippy!” I said happily.

“Yay!” I shouted happily because our next activity was my favorite, High Jump! I was very excited! Miss King took high jump and the side that I jump from is my left because I am more confident on that side then on the right. I ran up to the mat and jumped as high as i could and I made it!! I was so relieved. But unfortunately no one won so we have to have a final when we can see who won.
“Our next activity is sprints.” Our teacher said. So we ran to the sprints and got ready to line up. Mr Jacobson was the teacher who took it and Mrs Flavel was at the end to write down who came 1st, 2nd and 3rd. “ On your marks, get set . . . . . . GO!!!” I sprinted as fast as I could and I came 2nd in the 75m and 100m sprint. I was so happy.

That day was very cool and when we finished everything we have a relay with all of the teachers, parents and kids. It looked fun but I wasn’t aloud to race because Miss Va’afusuaga already got all of the people.  I felt really happy and relieved that Athletics was finished because I was really tired so I went home and had a sleep.

How to make a Polka dot Teddy bear

The things that you will need to make a Teddy bear is:

* A sewing needle
* Cotton
* Scissors
* Felt Materials
* Paper and a pencil
* Stuffing ( to put in the teddy bear )
* Eyes to put on the teddy bear
* Polkadots and a bow
* Hot glue gun

Materials:

* Felt Materials
* Fabric
* Treads
* Stuffing

Instructions:

1. First you sketch a picture of a teddy bear on a piece of paper and then cut it out, you have to half the fabric so there is two piece of the fabric shaped as a teddy bear when you finish

2. Then you put the cut-out of a teddy bear sketch and put it on the piece of fabric and put pins through it, the pins are there to help keep the piece of paper still
when you cut it out

3. Then you cut over the piece of paper and then take off the paper so the material looks like the sketch. Then you will have two pieces of material that is in the shape of  a teddy bear

4. After that you will have to take one of the cut-out  pieces and cut a little slit in the middle so you can put the stuffing in it

5. Then you will have to sew the two pieces together and when you finish you will have to turn the teddy bear inside out from the little slit so you don’t see the sewing marks in it

6. Next you will have to put the stuffing in through the little slit that we made earlier and then sew it up with a sewing needle and cotton

7. Finally  you can cut out circles with the Leftover  fabric and sew it on the teddy bear so it looks like a ‘Polka Dot Teddy bear’

My Favourite Toy

My favourite toy is a big, stuffed teddy bear because my grandparents brought me it on my birthday and when I was little, it would always be on my pram wherever I go. It looks like a big snuggly baby but it furry and fluffy and it makes me want to fall asleep. When squease the arm it will s remake a noise and my uncle said I would always laugh at it.

My favourite toy makes me feel sleepy because every time I go to sleep, I would snuggle it in my bed and my uncle would read me a story. It reminds me of my mum because she is so soft and cuddly.The best memory I have of my favourite toy is wherever and whenever I go somewhere, it would’ve been right behind me on my pram.

When I would fall asleep, it would be right there. I really liked my teddy bear when I was small because when I go inside, I would take it off of my pram and take it with my. It was like my little friend! I would always say to the teddy bear that I would take wherever I go. That it was I did from that day on. But until I came home one day from kindy, my bear was gone! My cousin came over and took it. I was really sad!

I didn’t know what to do because I wanted my teddy bear! I was really lucky because my grandma brought me a new one. But, it wasn’t like my old one and I was really upset. The next day my cousin came over and guess what she had in her hand, MY TEDDY BEAR!!!! I was so relieved because my teddy bear was alright, I never took my eyes off it again.

Narrative Writing

“ What should we do today?” asked Emily. It was going to be another long, sunny, boring day just sitting in the living room, wondering what to do. Susan just remembered that she had volunteered to clean the crocodiles cage at the zoo. “ Oh no, not the zoo!” Joe said. He absolutely hated the zoo.

When they arrived, they went up to the main desk and asked how they could help to clean up the crocodiles enclosure. Emily had to pick up all of the litter, Joe had to feed the crocodiles and Susan had to clean the pool. “ I'm pretty hungry, how about you fellows?” said Susan. So they all went to the cafe.

Joe wasn’t that hungry so he had a rest on the little armchair and Emily and Susan had a cup of coffee. They didn’t know but someone had left the crocodile cage open so Crocky the crocodile had escape. He would destroy everything that was in his path or in his way. “ ARGHHHHHHHHHH!!” a man called. “Help me!” Crocky the crocodiles was on the loose.

Crocky snuck up on Joe and he started to run because he saw Crocky. Emily and Susan went after the crocodile and and Joe followed them. They went round and round in circles. They were running straight for the cage when Crocky got trapped by the Animal control.

“ Today wasn’t boring at all!” said Susan. It was a awesome, tiering and scary day for Joe, Emily and Susan. I wonder who left the cage open?” Joe asked. So they were trying to over think who left the cage open.

Tamaki Tech

Every Tuesday we have been walking down to Tamaki College and having our Technology down there. The most likeable class that I have had is Cooking with Mrs Heka and the most unlikeable class is Electronic with Mr Malhotra. The second favorite class is hard materials. The reason why I hated Electronic was because Mr Malhotra talks way too much, at cooking, we obviously got to cook.

In Electronics, we learnt how to use a soldering iron. We even got to make stuff that involved LED lights, batteries and burning stuff with the soldering wire. The reason why it was so boring was because Mr Malhotra would talk way too much and he would take up alot of our time so thats why some of us didn’t finish our projects.

In Hard Materials, I had a lot of fun making a housing joint and turning it into a tow truck. I really like the teacher who takes it and his name is Mr Grundy (he is really honest when it comes to honesty). I liked that class because it was very fun learning a lot of thing about making thing with wood.

Now I have cooking and the teacher who takes that is Mrs Heka and she is AWESOME!!!. Next term she will be going to fiji and then a new teacher will be taking us. It’s really sad because I like watching her cook and she has a great humour. I feel sad and happy at the same time.

End of the term reflection

Experiencing and learning about all kinds of different things this term was awesome! Learning different things about reading, writing and maths was very educational and fun. I would have always fought to the finish if I hadn’t finished my individual project.

Our class won the MAGIC (Music and Art Glen Innes Centre) competition. Then we had to go to these meetings to talk about the music and art centre and how we should fix it up. Then we had a look at all of the charts and we even got to write down our own ideas to help them fix up the place.

I have learnt a lot of new and exciting things just from this term! My teacher Mrs Lagitupu has been helping me to achieve all of my goals. One of my goals were to skip 100 or more times without stopping. I achieve it because I worked very hard and I practised every week or at least once a week.

This term I have had a lot of fun and I hope that next term I will have an even better term! I even made new friend. If you finished school and you didn’t want it to, how would you feel?

Olympics day!!

It was a scorching hot thursday morning when I could hear someone calling me. “ Hey Hueloata, can I have some help here please?” Miss Va'afusuaga calls out to me. She was setting up an amazing whole day olympics day on our school fields. There was sports gear everywhere so she asked if we could help her put them into their right places.

My socks were soaking wet when I had finished doing that job
for Miss Va’afusuaga. “ Ring!!” the bell goes. Then everybody came to sit down on the court in our line and countries. The first thing that Miss Va’afusuaga said were all of the activities that we had to go to.

The team that I was in was Kenya. My buddie was Rita and our team leader was Miracle. The first activity that ‘Team Kenya’ did was foursquare in the street. The teacher who took that activity was Mrs Lagitupu! Sadly, team kenya lost to team Uganda but in our heart we won that game.

“bounce, bounce, bounce.” I could hear the basketballs bounce. The I thought in my head that we were going to play basketball. I was right!! I was on the second round and we won fair and square, but it was really hard to be up against Russia.

I had a really cool day and I really hope that we can do it again. I felt happy and tired at the same time.

"GO PT ENGLAND, GO!!!"

As the scorching hot sun was shining brightly in our eyes, the rugby girls were getting ready to play against Koru school. It was on a very hot Friday afternoon when we went to go and watch the girl play rugby on our school field. The Koru girls came from South Island. Our girl looked very determined to win and as for Koru, well they looked determined as well.

When Mr Jacobson and his helper were setting up the field, the girls were inside getting ready for this big game. Like Mr Jacobson always says, “ Right time, right place and right attitude!!” Then out came our rugby girls. As the girls walked out proudly then out came Koru school and they had determined looks on their faces. You could see in their eyes that they really wanted to win.

“ Go Pt England, you can do it!!” screamed the line of spectators. The girls were lining up in their positions ready to make tremendous tried and big hits and tackles. As people like Jaylee and Athena ran up to tackle the opposition, then Pesi ran up and scored the very first try of the game and then you could see that Koru was getting very fierce.

You could feel that everybody was very excited that we got the first try but there
was more to go. Koru got a try then we did then they did then we did and it just kept going back and forward. But then at the very end it was a tie and the person who got the golden try. But unfortunately the school who got the golden try was Koru. It was very upsetting but it was a really good game for the girls.

The score was 15-16. It was a very close game and the girls worked very hard to get to where they are right now! I felt bad for the girls but I felt really happy for Koru school. “ It alright girls, next time you will win” the supports say to them and then we went back to class packed up and went home.

What if ....... I Could Go Back In Time

What if I could go back in time? If I was able to go back in time then I would save a lot of people from things like Tsunami, earthquakes and aftershocks, flooding and other disaterest things. I would tell all of the people that there is going to be disaster and try to save their lives.

Traveling back in time would be very cool because if there is going to be any burglaries or bank robberies anywhere then I could tell the police. Then the police would go to that place and try to stop the burglaries and bank robberies. It would be as hard as trying to cut a tree down. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the “present.”

I would save many people and explore the olden days when my mum and dad were only 16. Ok that is not a sight to be seeing. Anyways it would be very cool to go back in the future and see a lot of things that I never have seen before like, the first car that was ever invented. It would be so amazing.

What if ........ I Was A Superhero

What if I was a Superhero? If I was a superhero, I would have powers like flying, water and fire, invisibility  and other cool things. I would fly over the city and if anyone needed any help than I would help them. “ Help, Help!” someone would calls and I would be there to rescue that person.  I would like to be called ‘Mysterious’.

I would use the element water to put out all of the fires in the city. I would use the element fire to let all of the bad people know not to come anywhere near me. Last but not least, I would use the invisibility to get through all of the bad thing that are happening! I would be as invisible as the wind.

If I was to be called a superhero, then I would do anything and help anyone if they ever needed me. I would stop all of the burglaries and all of the bank robberies. I would be as happy as a person who just won the lottery. It would be an honor to be called a superhero.

What if . . . . I WAS A BILLIONAIRE?

What if I was a billionaire? I would take some money for the Charities and the cancer society. I would help other people with sickness diseases and help the poor. I would buy my family some food. I would take my family for a trip overseas for a week. I would visit my other family in the Cook Island and give them some money as well.

I would buy me a two story mansion with a pool the size of a blue whale and a nice car. I would have 6 bedrooms, 7 toilets, 4 showers and baths, a Huge kitchen and a big family room. I would buy two 50 inch Panasonic TV, but I would also give some money to the school so everybody will get a netbook and maybe a Ipad touch each. I will have my own water slide and a diving board.

I would travel around the world and learn different languages like my own language. I would travel to hollywood and meet some of the most famous people like Beyonce and One Direction ( Boy Band ). Then I would own a sports hall and in it you can play basketball, volleyball, soccer and netball. I would buy a library to have my own piece and quite. If there was anything in the world that I love better than money, it is my own family.

Mini Olympics

“Hueloata, do you have a number and team?” Mrs Lagitupu said. I said “what is it for?” With a surprised look on my face,she told me that we were doing a mini Olympics. “ But its raining!” I was complaining to Mrs Lagitupu. “ I know, but its going to be indoors.” The years 5-8 were competing in the mini-olympics. When we arrived in the hall, I could see people lining up in their teams. The team that I was in was Tainui 1.

The first activity that we did was Relays with Mr Burt. The team that we were against was Takitimu. I felt really nervous. The relays were to get the tennis ball in the bucket three times then  run with a hula hoop on your hand while it’s spinning. You also had to hold the tennis ball in the middle of your legs and get it in the bucket. Then we rotated to another activity.

 That was Singstar with Mr Jacobson. The team that we were against for that activity was Te Arawa 2. The first people to sing was Ashin and Andrew. They were singing I wanna dance with somebody by Whitney Houston. It was so funny watching them sing. “ I wanna dance with somebody” They sang. But unfortunately Ashin didn’t win, Andrew did. Then Awhina sang against Toko and the same happened with him. Awhina won!

I didn’t get to have my battle against my friend Tui but, in the Obstacle course I got to verse her and the person who took it was Miss Va'afusuaga. The obstacle course went like this. First we had to dribble the soccer ball then we had to go over the beam with the it. After that we went over then under the stage blocks. Last but not least, we had to kick the ball into the goal. I was one of the fastest people there.

The very last activity was Cyber coach with Mr Slade. Cyber coach is like jump jam but the moves don’t go fast, they go slow. We learnt a very fun dance. But later on in the day it got very boring and then I sat down. I was very exhausted on that day and I would love to have another mini-olympics again someday.

Making Good Choices

Earlier this term, we have been going to visit Harold and Lynn in the Life education caravan. She has been talking to us about making good choices and keeping our body healthy. To keep your body healthy, you need to look after it. By looking after it I mean have a shower

Your body is special and unique and there has never been or will never be another you. Think of making positive choice and keeping your body healthy. If you take drugs that aren’t good for you, then something negative will happen.

The side effects for smoking are really bad. You will get lung cancer, heart attack or a stroke, asthma, kidney cancer and other things that are really bad. Sometimes you even have health problems like keeping your teeth clean. Smoking around your children is really bad because when they breath then they breath all of the smoke and influence in and that is really bad.

If I was ever to smoke in my life I wouldn't because smoking is really bad. The effects that smoking gives are really bad. So, if you ever want to quit smoking, then do it, you life depends on you.

Cross Country

Running on the field and struggling to get through the mud was very exhausting. At cross country, I had a goal and it was to run without stopping. But unfortunately I didn’t succeed. I was getting very tired of walking in the mud. There were teams like Takitimu, Te Arawa, Mataatua and Tainui, but the team that I am in is Tainui.

When we were at the starting line, I had butterflies and I was really nervous. Mr Burt came with his starting blocks and said the magic words to start off the race. “On your marks, get set, GO!!!” Everybody ran as fast as they could but some of us slowed down at the gates.

When I reached the gravel, that's when I saw the 12 year old girls catching up to me. I started to panic. But then I realised that I was sprinting and wasting my energy. I stopped to take a breath, then I kept running. “Oh no! Not again!” I said to myself as they ran past me. I was as dehydrated as a shrivelled plant on a hot sunny day.

When I reached the bush walk, there was a big muddy puddle and I  slipped in it. My friend started laughing so I had a little giggle as well. When we finished having a giggle, we carried on running to reach the finish. As soon as I got up to Taniwha street, I stopped and started to walk very calmly. I walked for a little bit then I started to run towards the bridge.  Mr Barks was standing on the bridge making a video of all the runners running past.

When I saw the finish line, I thought to myself “Hallelujah!!”
I felt really happy crossing the finish line. I felt like an athlete coming first in something because people were screaming out “Go Hueloata, you can do it!! ” But unfortunately, I didn’t come first. I came fifth. But still, I felt really happy and tired from that race.

Usain Bolt, A true sprinting legend

The unbeatable Jamaican Athlete Usain Bolt always crossing the finish line in incredible records like 19.19 seconds. Usain Bolt is as fast as lightning and as fierce as thunder. In Bolts words he said that the London Olympic games was when he was going to become a legend and he did!!! But not for the reasons that he thinks.

Jacques Rogges, the president of the IOC ( International Olympics Committee ), says that bolt has to participate in 3 or 4 more olympic games to become legendary. Usain Bolt  won the the 200m sprint at two Olympic games. But still not enough to make him legendary. Becoming the first sprinter to win both of the 100m and 200m in two of the Olympic games again!! Still no change.

In the 80,000 seat Stadium, when he is on the track ready to run the people chant “ Usain, Usain do the bolt!! ” They didn’t do that for the other athletes. The crowd would go wild screaming “Do the Bolt.” As they were screaming, he pointed his finger to the sky in his trademark pose.

When he does his trademark pose, many people would scream and shout out his name. When I watch Usain Bolt run around the track, he inspires me to try and run my hardest when I run and to try my hardest at everything. One day, I would like to be in his shoes running around the track and breaking world records like his records.

Olympic Message

The most important thing about the Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part...just as the most important thing in life is not the triumph, but the struggle”. These are the words of Baron Pierre de Coubertin the founder of the Modern Olympics, also the designer of the olympic flag. As I read the Olympic message, it really motivates me to work harder and it doesn’t matter if you win or not.

If I had a say in what the olympic message means, I would say that it means to take part in something, represent your country and have a little fun doing it. It’s just like the 3 D’s Determination, Dedication and Desire. You are determined to win, you dedicate something to someone and you desire to have a gold medal.

I think that winning isn’t everything in life and that you have to sacrifice everything just to get up to the top of the board. Like you have to sacrifice your time, family, diet and other things. To get to the top of the board, there is one thing that you have to do, try your best!! It doesn’t matter if you have a bronze or silver medal it just matters that you are on the board.

To achieve a goal, you have to practise, practise and practise till you reach the end. There are many ways to achieve a goal like practise everyday, practice once a week or don’t practise at all. If you don’t practise at all then you will not achieve your goal. If you practise everyday or once a week, then you you will achieve anything.

If I was to achieve a goal, then I would practice at least once a week or twice a week. I would feel really happy if I was to achieve my goal, skipping for at least 1 minute of 2. How would you achieve your goal if you had one ?

Keep your head high

Looking very proud, the asian athlete stands up showing everybody her gold medal and flowers. As she holds her gold medal up, she has a victorious look on her face. She now knows that she is a champion standing there on the podium with a medal in one hand and flowers in the other. As she stands on the podium, she feels like she's on top of the world. As the Asian athlete smiled with excitement, the audience applauded her as she stood on the podium.

Champions never give up

“ Yeah”, the team screams as one of the team members scored the winning score. They’re screaming with excitement as they run across the field. As the proud footballers shout with joy, they are wildly running and sharing that they won. The crowd and the team goes wild as they kick their winning goal in. Screaming and shouting with victorious voices, they all run with joy and they celebrate with each other.

Wrestle with Strength

When the two professional wrestlers challenge, one of them struggle to fight and the other is trying to make him tap out. With great difficulty, the wrestlers fight with good strength and Determination. As quickly as he could, he took his opponent down and then arm locked him to a position were he could not get out. With facial expression, both of the wrestlers are determined to win and take the victory with them. The opponent in th blue looks very desperate to get out of the competitors arm lock.

Focus on the Target

As he stands there positioning himself, he pulls his arrow with all his strength to hit the target. He has a focused and concentrated look on his face when he pulls his arrow.
As he pulls the arrow back ready to release it into the air and on to the target, he waits
for the right moment to shoot. As he gets ready to aim, he pulls back his arrow and with a focused look in his eyes he stands in position and is ready to release. If he aims properly and positions himself properly then he will hit the target.

London Olympics

This year, the Olympic games will take place in London for the third time ever. The first time that the Olympic Games were held in London was 1908, the second was in 1948. In the London Olympic games in 1948, Fanny Blankers-Koen, a dutch mother of 2 became the only woman in history to win 4 gold medals at one game. The first modern Olympic Games was held in Athens, Greece.

At the 2008 Beijing Olympic games, the country that won the most medals was the USA. Michael Phelps is one of the athletes from the USA who has 16 gold medals and is also looking to win more this year. He won 3 gold medals in 2008 as well.

The world fastest man, Usain Bolt holds the world record of the 100 metre sprint, 200 metre sprint and the 4x100 metre relay. The sports that I know that they are included in the Olympics are swimming, track and field, weightlifting, table tennis, water polo, gymnastics, basketball, volleyball and many others. This years Olympics is going to have some returning champions who won medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

London is a city that embraces the majesty of the old and the excitement of the new. As an athlete, you have to set a goal and try to achieve. If you do then you make the goal more harder. Just like Valerie Adams, her first throw for shot put was 17.45m. Then she practised and practised and practised then she threw a score of 19.66m. Now her personal best throw is 21.24 metres.

I have many favorite activities and athletes but my favorite activity in the Olympics is shot put and my favorite athlete is Valerie Adams. When I watch her throw in shot put, I feel very happy and someday I would like to become a shot putter just like her.

My special place

Special places are everywhere. My special place is in Gisborne. I chose Gisborne because I went to a beach with my mum called Waikanae beach and we had a swim there. It was so awesome! I really liked that place because I got to meet new people in my family that I didn’t know before. It takes a really long time to get there but it’s worth it because I have fun playing with my cousins. It’s special to me because it reminds me of the first time I got to meet new people in my family.

Claude Monet is really talented when it comes to painting. So, that is why I chose him. His style of art is Impressionism. I have decided to base my painting on Monet’s because he makes his art look so realistic. I wanted to try and make my painting of Waikanae beach look like the one of his called ‘Arm of the Seine near Vetheuil’. His art looks like he hasn’t even sketched it. When you look at his paintings, it has no lines at all. It doesn’t really matter what colours you use but the important thing is that you know what colours you’re using. The colours that I have used are dull. I didn’t use bright colours because I like dull colours like green. I carefully used little brush strokes and it was pretty hard to do. I really like my painting and I hope you do too.

Reflection for this term

This term, I have learnt alot of things about art. The other thing is that we even got to learn about artists like Claude Monet, Vincent Van gogh, Henri Matisse and their styles of art. I have a painting of my special place and the artist that I have chosen to look over on is Claude Monet. His art is like when you take a picture but moved a little and everything is blurry. I am proud of what I have accomplished this term.

We even had a performance and it was called P.E.P.A, it stands for Pt England Performing Art. It was so awesome!!! I like it because there were all sort of categories. There were kapa haka, hip hop, ballet, breakdancing and others. A lot of people were very confident at what they were doing because their teacher was very confident as well and her name is Olivia Muliaumasealii. She is the one who made up P.E.P.A.

This term has been a blast. I feel really happy and sad at the same time. The reason I feel happy is because we don’t have to go to school and the reason why I’m sad is because I don’t get to see my friends again until school starts. I hope that next term will be even better.

Spongebob and Patrick( Describing a character )

Spongebob and Patrick are annoying, imaginative, irresponsible  and they both love jelly fishing. They annoy their neighbour Squidward and they don’t think what they're doing until they do it. Spongebob has really big eyes, red cheeks and has a big smile. On the other hand, Patrick lacks intelligence, loses his memory and is lazy. Spongebob works at the Krusty Krab flipping krabby patties while Patrick lies on the top of his rock doing nothing all day. Spongebob practices karate but Patrick still lies on his rock.

Static images

In room 21 we are learning about static images. What is a static image? A static image is a picture that lacks movement or in other words, a picture that does not move. It can be a sketching, poster, painting or drawing.

This photo above is about a sun that is setting and it has reflected on the water. It is an image that has a lot of feelings. There are no bright colours but it still looks beautiful. The most dominant colour I see is pink. The photographer has taken a really good picture and it has a great effect. When I look at this picture I feel happy and it makes me want to sleep.

Taonga Time at Pt England School

At school, team 5  have an activity every Friday and it is called Taonga Time. Taonga Time is when we go to different classes and do different things. It is pretty fun going to Taonga time because we learn about different thing and then how to do it.

The things that we do are movie making, painting our picnic tables, sports, time laps, and other things. The activity that I’m in is movie making and so far I’m starting to like it. We had to get into a group of 4 and then we had to think of what kind of movie we were going to make. The people that I’m a group with is Vivienne, Caroline and Helen.

Our movie is almost finished and when we finish we have to show it to Mrs Lagitupu so she can check it. Our (Vivienne, Caroline, Helen and I) movie needs a little bit of fixing but we are nearly done. If we are done and there is nothing else to do with it then she will send the movie to Mrs Telea and she will put it on PENN.

Even though I have been in the movie making class with Mrs Lagitupu for a little bit, I really like it and I don’t want to change to a different class because this one is cool. I hope the next class that I go to is a great class like this one.

Tamaki Tech

Every Tuesday, the year 7’s walk down to Tamaki College and have 3 different categories to go to. They are electronics, hard materials and food tech. We go down to Tamaki to experience all the thing that we will learn to do when we go there.

The activity that I’m in this term is hard materials and I think that it is going to be cool. The teacher that guides up throw the steps is Mr Grundy and he is a professional at drawing. Hard materials sounds cool and it is cool, when you arrive in the workshop there are tables to work on and there is only 4 students aloud on a table.

When we arrived in the workshop, the first thing that I noticed was all of the tools and wood in there. We all went to take a set and Mr Grundy introduced himself. After that, he gave out booklets for us to fill in and so we all did. We drew housing joints, a housing joint is a piece of wood and then you cut, make a dent in it and then put it back together.

Even though I have been in hard materials for one day, it’s pretty cool. I had a great time in hard materials and I get to learn more about it next week on Tuesday.

Comparing and Contrasting 'The Weeping Woman' By Pablo Picasso and 'A Lazy Day In Paradise' by Daniella Hulmes

In Rm 21 we have been assigned to compare and contrast two paintings. One of them is called ‘The Weeping Woman’ by Pablo Picasso and the other is called ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ by Daniella Hulmes. The style that Picasso is famous for is Cubism, but on the other hand Daniella Hulmes is a modern artist.

Pablo Picasso has weird and scary paintings so when you look at his paintings, it looks a bit bizarre. He uses a lot of odd colours but the main colour that he used in his painting ‘The Weeping Woman’ is yellow. He looks at things from different perspective and the person that is described as always weeping in his picture is Dora Maar.

When I look at the painting ‘A lazy day in paradise’, I recognize that it is an island and tropical painting and a woman relaxing and there are Samoan patterns used. A lot of her painting are Island paintings because her husband is Samoan. She has many bright colours but the colour that is most used is blue.

Both famous paintings and artist ‘The Weeping Woman’ by Picasso and ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ by Daniella Hulmes have some things in common but not a lot. They don’t have that many things that are the same but they have two things in common which are the colours yellow and blue and they have ladies in them.

In conclusion, I think that the paintings ‘The Weeping Woman’ and ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ don’t have that many things in common because they are both their own paintings. Daniella Hulmes and Pablo Picasso are both famous artist and their paintings are awesome!

Comparing and contrating

We have been asked to look at the similarities and differences between the two paintings. One painting which is called ‘La Musique’ is by Henri Matisse, the other is Sunflowers by Van Gogh. The style that Van Gogh uses is Expressionism and the style that Matisse uses is Fauvism.

When I looked at the Sunflowers, they look really dull and droopy. The colours that he used are yellow, brown, orange, black and green, he also mixed some colours. The type of technique that he uses is short vertical strokes.

When I look at the painting ‘La Musique’, it reminds me of practicing to play the guitar and me little cousin listening. The colours the he used is green, red, brown, yellow, white, blue and black. The technique that he used is ‘Les Fauves’

If I was to look at the similarities and differences between the two paintings, I would say that the only common thing that has been used in them both is the colour yellow. They both have plant either in the background or as the picture.

Matisse and Van Gogh are very famous artists, however they both have wonderful paintings and I hope one day, I will be famous artist like them.

Learning About Different Artist

This year, our Topic is Art Alive and the Team 5 students have been rotating to other classes and learning about different artists. Lets explore my interesting experience.

Instead of rotating, we stayed in our normal class first and the artist that we were learning about was Henri Matisse. His style is Fauvism, in other words ‘Wild Beast’. He believed that colours had healing powers and it expressed his feelings. We sketched part of one of his paintings.

We learned a lot about Henri Matisse but there was another artist that we had to learn about, Vincent Van Gogh. We went to Room 22 which was our second class. The teacher who takes that class is Mrs Nua. I found out that Van Gogh cut off his earlobe and sent it to his girlfriend. His style or art is expressionism. We drew a sunflower and then we painted it using vertical brush strokes.

The next day, we went to Mr Barks class and we learnt about an artist named Picasso. He saw things from different angles and then he would place it in the same space but it would look different. His style is Cubism. We drew a face and it looked pretty awkward because pieces of the face looked twisted even though the features of the face were still the same.

The 4th class the we went to was room 19 and this artists name is Claude Monet, his style of art is Impressionism. His paintings are really cool because when you look at them it looks 3D. I painted the beach and a sunsetting.

The very last class that we went to was room 20 and the artist that we were learning about was Daniella Hulme. Her paintings are really bright and colourful and I have noticed that all of her paintings are about the Pacific. We painted a painting of hers and some of them looked awesome.

It had a great week learning about artists and their styles and one day I hope I will be an artist just like them.
