Taonga Time at Pt England School

At school, team 5  have an activity every Friday and it is called Taonga Time. Taonga Time is when we go to different classes and do different things. It is pretty fun going to Taonga time because we learn about different thing and then how to do it.

The things that we do are movie making, painting our picnic tables, sports, time laps, and other things. The activity that I’m in is movie making and so far I’m starting to like it. We had to get into a group of 4 and then we had to think of what kind of movie we were going to make. The people that I’m a group with is Vivienne, Caroline and Helen.

Our movie is almost finished and when we finish we have to show it to Mrs Lagitupu so she can check it. Our (Vivienne, Caroline, Helen and I) movie needs a little bit of fixing but we are nearly done. If we are done and there is nothing else to do with it then she will send the movie to Mrs Telea and she will put it on PENN.

Even though I have been in the movie making class with Mrs Lagitupu for a little bit, I really like it and I don’t want to change to a different class because this one is cool. I hope the next class that I go to is a great class like this one.

Tamaki Tech

Every Tuesday, the year 7’s walk down to Tamaki College and have 3 different categories to go to. They are electronics, hard materials and food tech. We go down to Tamaki to experience all the thing that we will learn to do when we go there.

The activity that I’m in this term is hard materials and I think that it is going to be cool. The teacher that guides up throw the steps is Mr Grundy and he is a professional at drawing. Hard materials sounds cool and it is cool, when you arrive in the workshop there are tables to work on and there is only 4 students aloud on a table.

When we arrived in the workshop, the first thing that I noticed was all of the tools and wood in there. We all went to take a set and Mr Grundy introduced himself. After that, he gave out booklets for us to fill in and so we all did. We drew housing joints, a housing joint is a piece of wood and then you cut, make a dent in it and then put it back together.

Even though I have been in hard materials for one day, it’s pretty cool. I had a great time in hard materials and I get to learn more about it next week on Tuesday.

Comparing and Contrasting 'The Weeping Woman' By Pablo Picasso and 'A Lazy Day In Paradise' by Daniella Hulmes

In Rm 21 we have been assigned to compare and contrast two paintings. One of them is called ‘The Weeping Woman’ by Pablo Picasso and the other is called ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ by Daniella Hulmes. The style that Picasso is famous for is Cubism, but on the other hand Daniella Hulmes is a modern artist.

Pablo Picasso has weird and scary paintings so when you look at his paintings, it looks a bit bizarre. He uses a lot of odd colours but the main colour that he used in his painting ‘The Weeping Woman’ is yellow. He looks at things from different perspective and the person that is described as always weeping in his picture is Dora Maar.

When I look at the painting ‘A lazy day in paradise’, I recognize that it is an island and tropical painting and a woman relaxing and there are Samoan patterns used. A lot of her painting are Island paintings because her husband is Samoan. She has many bright colours but the colour that is most used is blue.

Both famous paintings and artist ‘The Weeping Woman’ by Picasso and ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ by Daniella Hulmes have some things in common but not a lot. They don’t have that many things that are the same but they have two things in common which are the colours yellow and blue and they have ladies in them.

In conclusion, I think that the paintings ‘The Weeping Woman’ and ‘A Lazy Day In Paradise’ don’t have that many things in common because they are both their own paintings. Daniella Hulmes and Pablo Picasso are both famous artist and their paintings are awesome!

Comparing and contrating

We have been asked to look at the similarities and differences between the two paintings. One painting which is called ‘La Musique’ is by Henri Matisse, the other is Sunflowers by Van Gogh. The style that Van Gogh uses is Expressionism and the style that Matisse uses is Fauvism.

When I looked at the Sunflowers, they look really dull and droopy. The colours that he used are yellow, brown, orange, black and green, he also mixed some colours. The type of technique that he uses is short vertical strokes.

When I look at the painting ‘La Musique’, it reminds me of practicing to play the guitar and me little cousin listening. The colours the he used is green, red, brown, yellow, white, blue and black. The technique that he used is ‘Les Fauves’

If I was to look at the similarities and differences between the two paintings, I would say that the only common thing that has been used in them both is the colour yellow. They both have plant either in the background or as the picture.

Matisse and Van Gogh are very famous artists, however they both have wonderful paintings and I hope one day, I will be famous artist like them.

Learning About Different Artist

This year, our Topic is Art Alive and the Team 5 students have been rotating to other classes and learning about different artists. Lets explore my interesting experience.

Instead of rotating, we stayed in our normal class first and the artist that we were learning about was Henri Matisse. His style is Fauvism, in other words ‘Wild Beast’. He believed that colours had healing powers and it expressed his feelings. We sketched part of one of his paintings.

We learned a lot about Henri Matisse but there was another artist that we had to learn about, Vincent Van Gogh. We went to Room 22 which was our second class. The teacher who takes that class is Mrs Nua. I found out that Van Gogh cut off his earlobe and sent it to his girlfriend. His style or art is expressionism. We drew a sunflower and then we painted it using vertical brush strokes.

The next day, we went to Mr Barks class and we learnt about an artist named Picasso. He saw things from different angles and then he would place it in the same space but it would look different. His style is Cubism. We drew a face and it looked pretty awkward because pieces of the face looked twisted even though the features of the face were still the same.

The 4th class the we went to was room 19 and this artists name is Claude Monet, his style of art is Impressionism. His paintings are really cool because when you look at them it looks 3D. I painted the beach and a sunsetting.

The very last class that we went to was room 20 and the artist that we were learning about was Daniella Hulme. Her paintings are really bright and colourful and I have noticed that all of her paintings are about the Pacific. We painted a painting of hers and some of them looked awesome.

It had a great week learning about artists and their styles and one day I hope I will be an artist just like them.
