Carboot Sale.

On a Saturday morning, there was something going on at our school. Some sort of fundraiser, it was the Carboot sale!!! A lot of people turned up to help and to be involved. The fundraiser was for the years 7 & 8 students camp for the end of the year.

I got to help out in one of the stalls. We sold T-shirts, pants, hats, cupcakes, cakes, licorice, jumper and other stuff. We worked so hard, that we were almost sold out. For the hard work that we did, we got a dollar each to buy a marshmallow and chocolate kebab.

At the end of the day, we all cleaned up and went home. I would say my favorite part of that day was helping out and seeing everybody there. That day was cool.

Camp Concert night!!

It was a nerve wracking evening because it was our camp concert night. Camp concert night was the night when we had to perform in front of the judges. The judges were April, Bruce and Shatna. When we arrived in the hall, there was already an audience ready to see the group dance.

Mr Barks was the host and he was the one who announced the names for the awards and the teams that had to perform. The leaders of the Resectablez were Hosannah and Joshua. The songs that we danced to were Krockidle and Hot, Hot, Hot. The camp awards were handed out in between the performances. Overall, we came 5th but its better then coming last.

I felt so happy when we had finished our item because it was so embarrassing standing on the stage looking like we didn’t know what we were doing. Finally, we could get ready to go to bed. That was the worst night ever.

Cupcakes at Camp!

Camp started on Monday and had to end on Wednesday, it all happened so fast. On Monday in the Afternoon, Mr Barks told some girls including me to go to room 12 and decorated some cupcakes with 3 lovely teachers. They were Mrs Barks, Mrs George and Miss Walters. When I heard that we were making cupcakes, I leapt to my feet and rushed there as fast as I could.

When we got there, we saw all of the cupcakes sitting there ready for us to decorate. We could do what ever we wanted on the cupcake like we could make a flower on it or you can make swirls. That was so awesome and I had a great time making these cupcakes look good.

I felt so happy because I got to have all 4 of those cupcakes in the picture on the left. I was so excited that I got to eat them all. That was so fun, I hope that next year we can do that again and I hope the same 3 teacher can help us make it as well.

Netball!!

For the first 2 weeks, Rm 21 have been playing netball. There are a lot of people that like playing netball, and I’m one of them! When you’re playing netball, you have to co-operate with your team or you won’t win. If you listen and try your hardest, you will succeed.

There were some techniques that we all had to learn. They were passing, pivoting, intercepting, attacking and defending. It sounds hard and it looks hard, but when you play it, it’s not that bad. Netball is just like basketball but theres no bouncing and running.

In every game, there has to be an instructor, so our instructors name is Liz. She is the one who showed us all of the skills and drills. We also played a game. The aim of the game was that you had to mirror what your partner was doing. There was another one that was called Netball tiggy.

Standing in the hot sun was very tiring so when we finished, I was dying for very cold water. Instead we had fruit. The fruit calmed me down and it was so refreshing that I wanted to beg for another. That was so fun!!

Te Tiriti O Waitangi!

Way back in the 1840’s, a treaty had to be signed because there was no peace between the Maori and Pakeha. There were alot of disagreements between the two cultures. About 40 chiefs signed the Treaty on the 6th of February, 1840, but 500 more including 13 women signed it as well.

Some people had main jobs. Henry Williams was a missionary who translated the English version of the Treaty into Maori. James Busby and William Hobbson were the people who wrote the English Treaty. At the time ,the Queen was Victoria. Last but not least, Hone Heke was the Maori Chief.

For days and days, the Treaty circulated around New Zealand for Maori’s to sign. The Treaty involved the three P’s and here they are and what they meant. Protection means to protect their land, Partnership means to bring friendship between the two cultures and last but not least Participation means to bring peace to their area.

They made copies of the Treaty because at the time, communication from one area to another was too difficult and too hard. So instead of taking the risk of losing the Treaty ,they made copies. The Treaty place is in the Bay of Islands down in the North Islands.

Wow, there are a lot of things that I still want to know about the Treaty and that I know already. Te Tiriti O Waitangi is an interesting thing to work on! Like William Hobbson said (“He iwi tahi tatou”) which meant “We are now one people.”
